I’ll be honest when I first started as an Administrative Assistant Intern at Employee Plans Services, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I figured I’d handle some scheduling, sit in on a few meetings, and walk away with a line on my resume. Two years later, I can say with confidence that’s not what happened. Over the course of my time at EPS, I supported the logistical needs of our CEO directly, managing schedules and travel, coordinating communications, and making sure the right things got to the right people at the right time. I also got meaningful exposure to licensing and compliance work, which gave me a window into the operational and regulatory side of the insurance business that most interns never see. What kept me here for two years was simple, I felt like the work mattered. EPS is small enough that your contributions are visible and your effort has real impact, there’s no coasting, and there’s no hiding. I got sharper at managing competing priorities, staying organized under pressure, and carrying myself professionally in an environment where the stakes were real. I grew into the role in a way I didn’t expect, and that growth compounded over time. I came in expecting a standard college internship. Two years later, I left with a stronger skill set, a clearer sense of how a well-run business operates, and a confidence in my own ability to contribute from day one wherever my career takes me next.
